Cut and Paste: David Leese Style of Collage
David Leese incorporates leftovers or “residuals” from his previous projects. Many of the key images are recycled from earlier unsuccessful experiments. When a piece comes up short, there is often some part of it that was very interesting or successful. He likes to salvage that element and use it as a catalyst for building a new image.
This particular piece is called the “Environmental Watchdog”. The character is his impression of what an animated, undercover Environmental Protection Agent might evolve into in the future in order to be effective. It all started with the colorful head and hat shape that I saved from a failed monoprint. The rest of the work is really all about completing the thought.
If you would like more information about the “Environmental Watchdog” and other works from the series or to schedule an appointment for a no-obligation presentation call the David Leese Studio at 646.375.2488.
